This hydraulic 6 disc mower ( 8 foot or 2.4 meter ) built in Holland makes mowing very easy.
Early December in Tasmania means it's hay season.
SO! , where are all those backpackers when you need them?
Lying on a sun drenched beach somewhere I hope.

This year Jack wants to supervise from the front seat, of course.
It is a difficult season now, so square and round bales are taken up where ever conditions are best suited.

Josh and David arrive in late October 2015 from Oregon in the USA and get
                          straight down to work.
Here Josh is getting the bale ready to feed out, and concentrating on getting it right.
Clearing away pin rushes from a spring

                               Collecting pine cones for winter.
Fencing, rolling up the old fence.
Splitting wood, Josh and Dave made it look easy.
An old tree on our property we think had been hit by lighting a long time ago is hollowed out almost to the top. We have swift parrots nesting in a tree next to this one.

                                 Planting lettuce seedlings
The tiller nearly got away from Josh but he wont be beaten.
Not working hard enough, Tasmania is famous for its convict heritage.
#Ridin in the back of the truck justa takin crap to the tip#
David and Josh on a day trip to see the River Tamar
The cattle are taking a lot of interest.
Josh was very careful with the electric fence, I dont think he got zapped while he was here :)
Getting cattle through the yards averaging 640kg.
Planting pea's. Should be up and ready January.

Thursday 1 October 2015

In September 2015 we hosted Gray, a 24 year old American guy from that fine state of Georgia USA.
He was a great help around the property, and with helping us to re-build our stock yards.

And after a hard day, a home made beer is always welcome.

Monday 31 August 2015

Jack moves some stock to another paddock.
It is late winter (August 2015) in Tassie and our latest helper Jack from the UK is keen to see the stunning views of the north coast.

Sunday 2 August 2015

We woke up today hoping to see snow and there it was, the first time we have seen snow settle on the ground since coming here 12 years ago, a wonderful anniversary present. (2 Aug. 2015 )

Saturday 1 August 2015

August 2015. Our latest helper hard at work, this time  from Brittany in France, Ivan assists us to re-build the stockyard compound by installing new posts.

Ivan is a Industrial Engineer in re-newable energy, but could be a great chef if he chose because this lasagna is without a doubt the best I have ever eaten, thanks Ivan.

Friday 3 July 2015

Walking through the most amazing forest area of our friends farm.
The tallest old tree's reaching up, you get dizzy just looking up at them. They help to support amazing birds and wildlife.
A platypus has moved into this dam, and not bothered by us at all, looking at us looking at him (place the mouse hand on the middle of the screen, click to zoom in and you will see him there) . They do make a mess of the waterhole but he will have a feed and move on then water will settle again.
 Platypus watching.
The change of season last month, all the fruit tree's are bare now.
An early frost, we have had a few cold starts to the day recently.
We are above the frost line but, amazing to see all the white frost across the valley.

Sunday 31 May 2015

Clearing along the fence line, watch out Johan I didn't turn the electric fence off yet!
Johan trying to unwrap the bale but the calves can't wait any longer.
Good weather bad fishing at Badgers Head today, better luck next time Johan.

Tuesday 12 May 2015

May 2015, Welcomes Johan from Sweden. He has been traveling and working his way around Tasmania and has been to places that we haven't seen yet.
Getting in and working with the cattle.
Putting in a new ATV 4 wheel drive track to use across a steep paddock.
Fence repairs after some stock decided they were not going to do what we wanted and went through the fence. All a little too wild for everyone. ( not what we thought was going to happen) but a few repairs done and all is good again :)
